How Does the Technology Work?

Laser surfacing in Scottsdale with the Erbium laser targets the epidermis – otherwise known as the outer layer of your skin. By removing this tissue, it reveals the smooth, youthful layer that exists just beneath the surface. The process also stimulates the production of fresh collagen, which delivers additional skin tightening benefits.

What is the Erbium Laser?

The Erbium laser treatment removes the surface layers of your skin, where wrinkles, lines, pigmentation and other imperfections exist.

  • Treats aging skin on the face, neck, back, chest, and hands
  • FDA-approved for smoothing fine lines and moderate wrinkles
  • Safe and effective for many patients

How to Prepare for Laser Resurfacing

There are several steps that you will need to take to prepare your body for Erbium laser resurfacing in Scottsdale. To begin, you will need to stop taking any medications and supplements that may affect clotting – including aspirin and ibuprofen for at least ten days. You will also need to stop smoking for two weeks before and after the procedure, as cigarettes can negatively impact your healing process.

Prescription medications will be given prior to treatment to make sure we avoid cold sores or fever blisters as well as a preventive antibiotic to avoid an infection at all costs. You will meet with Dr. Shapiro and one of our experienced aestheticians to “pre-treat” your skin with prescription strength skincare products prior to your treatments to achieve optimal results.

Is the Erbium laser safe?

Yes, when administered by a plastic surgeon experienced in skin resurfacing procedures, the Erbium laser is an extremely safe and effective way to treat fine lines and wrinkles. How does Erbium laser resurfacing compare to CO2 laser treatments?

While both Erbium and CO2 lasers are effective for resurfacing, Erbium laser treatments are typically gentler with a shorter recovery time. CO2 lasers penetrate deeper and are better suited for severe wrinkles and deep scars, whereas Erbium is ideal for fine lines, moderate wrinkles, and sun damage with less risk of pigmentation issues.

How painful is the Erbium laser treatment?

Discomfort is minimal since the procedure is performed under topical numbing or general anesthesia. Patients may experience a warming sensation during treatment and mild stinging or tightness during the recovery phase.

How should I care for my skin after the procedure?

Post-treatment care is crucial for optimal healing. Patients should: - Apply ointments as directed to keep the skin hydrated - Avoid sun exposure and wear SPF daily - Refrain from picking or peeling the skin - Stay hydrated and follow all post-care instructions provided

Can I wear makeup after Erbium laser resurfacing?

Makeup should be avoided for at least 7-10 days post-treatment to allow proper healing. Once cleared by your provider, mineral-based makeup is recommended to avoid irritation.

How soon will I see results after Erbium laser resurfacing?

Initial improvements are visible as redness and swelling subside within 1-2 weeks. However, the full benefits of collagen production and skin renewal develop over 3-6 months, leading to smoother, firmer, and more radiant skin.

Can Erbium laser resurfacing be combined with other treatments?

Yes! Erbium laser resurfacing can be combined with dermal fillers, Botox, or microneedling for enhanced anti-aging results. Your provider will create a customized plan based on your skincare goals.
