Revision Rhinoplasty Before & After

Patient is a 24-year-old nurse who underwent a previous rhinoplasty by another surgeon who despite his confidence and assurances, was not successful in making the patient happy. She specifically did not like her flat and masculine appearing nose that lacked feminine tip projection and did not appear “perky” as she was promised.

Septoplasty

The nasal septum is the bone and cartilage that divides the nasal passages in two. It is lined by a thin membrane known as the mucosa, which acts as skin and keeps the nose moist. A deviated septum occurs when the cartilage and bone are displaced to one side. This can be present from birth, or it may result from a nasal injury.

A septoplasty is a procedure that is done to correct a deviated septum and correct chronic breathing challenges.

The Rhinoplasty Consultation

Dr. Shapiro will review concerns, surgical techniques, and recovery and advise on what to look for in a surgeon during your consultation. He recommends bringing photographs to explain desired changes and uses advanced software to manipulate a digital image of your nose for expected outcomes. Dr. Shapiro works with patients to determine the best changes for facial harmony during an in-person evaluation.

Vectra® 3D imaging softwareSee the nose you want

Thanks to recent advances in three-dimensional photograph technology, we are proud to have Vectra® 3D imaging software in our practice. Vectra® 3D software can be explained in three easy steps:

Step 1:

During your consultation, multiple images of your nose are taken, allowing us to construct a three-dimensional photograph of your face.

Step 2:

The aesthetic concerns identified in the photographs allow Dr. Shapiro to create an aesthetic blueprint and customize a surgical plan based on your needs.

Step 3:

Dr. Shapiro uses simulated sculpting tools to edit the photograph to give you a representation of what your post-operative rhinoplasty result would be.

The Rhinoplasty Surgical Process

Nasal surgery can be performed using an open or closed technique.

Open Rhinoplasty

With an open rhinoplasty, the most commonly performed type, the nasal structure is manipulated through a small incision on the tissue separating the nostrils, known as the columella. This cut heals into a fine line that is virtually indistinguishable.

Closed Rhinoplasty

Closed rhinoplasty does not require an external incision. However, it may only be used in certain cases because of surgical limitations. Incisions will be made entirely within the nose.

Your Procedure

  • Rhinoplasty surgery is performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis.
  • Patients must leave with a scheduled ride home.
  • Surgery is performed in the Paradise Valley Cosmetic Surgery Center, conveniently located just steps outside our office. This is the primary facility Dr. Shapiro uses for his surgical patients, and it is a State-Certified Ambulatory Surgery Center used exclusively for elective cosmetic surgery performed by plastic surgeons certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery.

What is the Recovery for Rhinoplasty?

3-5 Days

After surgery, patients will return to our office in 3-5 days to have their nasal packing materials removed.

1 Week

Surgical sutures will be removed along with the nasal splint one week after the procedure. At this post-op visit, your new nose will be revealed.

2 Weeks

Swelling and bruising typically peak two days after surgery and then continue to subside over two weeks.

1-2 Months

Nasal swelling may not be noticeable until the splint is removed. While most swelling subsides within one or two months, subtle swelling can persist for up to one year.

1 Year

The minor changes that morph over this year are often noticeable only to the patient.

What are the different Types of Rhinoplasty?

Ethnic Rhinoplasty

Before surgery, Dr. Shapiro will discuss whether you want subtle or dramatic changes. He has decades of experience performing rhinoplasty procedures on patients of Mediterranean, Asian and African descent and can improve the nose's appearance without removing signature ethnic characteristics that make you feel like you.

Revision Rhinoplasty

In some cases, patients are unhappy with the results of previous nose surgery. Perhaps too much cartilage and tissue was removed. Sometimes not enough was removed. In either case, Dr. Shapiro is well-versed in helping patients address these concerns and getting them to where they want to be.
