Regain Youthfulness With Facial Fat Transfer
Itâs no secret that our faces change as we age, but it happens so gradually, it can be hard to pinpoint what exactly changed. The round, full face associated with youth is created by even fat distribution in the face, with pockets of fat in the forehead, cheeks, and areas around the eyes and mouth to add volume. As we age, fat loses volume, causing features that were formerly round to appear sunken and skin that was smooth and tight to sag. Overall, the face appears slimmer and more angular, which can create an older, tired appearance. Fortunately, with state of the art procedures such as fat transfer, it is possible to restore youthful volume and contours to the face and rejuvenate the skin.
The facial fat transfer procedure uses a patientâs own body fat as a soft tissue filler to add volume and contour to the face. First, the fat is harvested, typically from areas where contour can be improved by removing fat, such as the lower abdomen, thighs, hips or buttocks. Next, the harvested tissue is decanted and processed in a centrifuge. Using stem cells isolated from the harvested fatty tissue greatly improves the survival rate of the transplanted fat, as well as the overall success of the procedure. Finally, after processing the fat it is injected into the face in small quantities until the desired results are achieved. It is important to note that in fat transfer procedures, the tissues are not transferred as inorganic fillers, but as tissue that has the capability to maintain living cells, providing permanent results and long-term enhancement.
The facial fat transfer procedure may be performed under local anesthesia and most patients experience some mild swelling and/or bruising around the treatment areas, which typically dissipates within a week. Final results are usually visible two weeks after the procedure once the swelling subsides.
