As both men and women age alike, the natural fat in the face and neck tend to accumulate and migrate south. The skin of the jaw begins to sag into jowls while the neck seems to become fuller without sharp angles, and make a person appear older or heavier then they actually are.
Neck liposuction is a minimally invasive procedure designed for patients who retain good elasticity in their skin, usually younger patients, and for whom a neck lift would be unnecessarily extensive. Neck liposuction is different than a neck lift; only extra fat is removed with liposuction, but many of the newer forms of ultrasonic liposuction can assist in significant skin tightening. No skin is removed, and as a result, there are fewer smaller scars than a neck lift. Dr. Shapiro, a facial plastic surgeon, performs this procedure in his Scottsdale office.
Neck Liposuction Procedure
Neck liposuction will reduce fat accumulations beneath the chin and in the neck, especially where the neck seems bulky and “double-chins” have developed over time. For areas with such delicate skin as the neck, it is essential that a gentle procedure be used. Dr. Shapiro, a Scottsdale neck liposuction surgeon, regularly uses VASER technology for his liposuction procedures.
The difference between VASER and other forms of liposuction, is that fat is melted using ultrasonic energy before it is suctioned away. This combined with the gentle suction of the VASER aspiration system provides a practically painless neck liposuction experience. The Vaser liposuction keeps the delicate neck skin from becoming overly bruised, and activates skin retraction for tightened neck skin, naturally.
During the neck liposuction procedure, a small incision is made beneath the chin. The scar is extremely small and virtually undetectable as it is well hidden in the natural crease of the chin. There is little associated discomfort; bruising and swelling are minimal, and are further reduced by wearing a chin strap for the first week as much as possible, then at night for the next two weeks. Dr. Shapiro’s Scottsdale neck liposuction patients are commonly back to socializing a week or so after surgery.
